The Communications Specialist is responsible for planning, writing, editing, and producing high-quality internal communications content. This role collaborates with cross-functional teams to deliver clear, accurate, and consistent messaging that supports organizational priorities. The position also manages the day-to-day maintenance of the organization’s intranet and supports internal engagement initiatives.
Develop, write, edit, and deliver internal communications across multiple channels, including email, intranet, in-person presentations, digital signage, and print materials.
Maintain and manage the organization’s intranet, including creating new content and pages, updating existing information, and overseeing departmental content contributors.
Manage the intranet content calendar to ensure timely, accurate, and strategically aligned communications.
Review and edit content submitted by internal stakeholders to ensure consistency with brand, tone, style, and accessibility standards.
Create, update, and maintain digital signage content.
Plan, coordinate, and support internal events and initiatives such as monthly all-hands meetings, lunch-and-learn sessions, and employee recognition programs.
Capture and edit photographs for internal publication.
Support video projects, including storyboarding, filming, and post-production editing.
5+ years of professional experience in internal communications, corporate communications, or a related field.
2+ years of project management experience.
Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
Experience working with websites and intranet platforms, including page design and content creation.
Proven ability to communicate effectively with remote and hybrid workforces.
Experience with photography and/or video production.
Strong internal storytelling and engagement-focused writing skills.
Knowledge of AP style guidelines.
Ability to leverage multiple communication channels to reach diverse audiences.
Experience incorporating equity, inclusion, and accessibility principles into communications.
Strong commitment to fostering an inclusive and respectful workplace.
Excellent cross-functional collaboration and interpersonal communication skills.
Exceptional written, visual, and editorial abilities.
Strong project and time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines and adapt to changing priorities.
High attention to detail.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 tools.
Experience creating and managing content calendars and schedules.
Graphic design experience.
Fluency in a language other than English.
Experience in the transit or public sector industry.
Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, English, Marketing, or a related field.
