Registered Nurse – ICU (Transitioning from Medical-Surgical)

Location: Ocala, FL 34474
Schedule: Full-Time | Days or Nights | Rotating Weekends

Role Summary

Dedicated Registered Nurse with a strong Medical-Surgical foundation, actively transitioning into the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Demonstrates developing expertise in the care of critically ill patients through continuous monitoring, rapid assessment, and close collaboration with a multidisciplinary ICU team. Committed to delivering high-quality, evidence-based critical care while advancing clinical skills and competencies in a critical care setting.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct nursing care to critically ill patients under ICU protocols and clinical supervision

  • Perform comprehensive patient assessments, including neurological, cardiac, respiratory, and hemodynamic monitoring

  • Monitor vital signs, cardiac rhythms, oxygenation, and intake/output; promptly identify and escalate changes in patient condition

  • Administer IV medications, blood products, and titratable infusions in accordance with ICU guidelines

  • Assist with ventilator management and the care of invasive lines, including arterial lines and central venous catheters

  • Collaborate with intensivists, physicians, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, and nursing colleagues to implement individualized care plans

  • Utilize critical thinking and sound clinical judgment in emergency and rapidly evolving patient situations

  • Maintain accurate, timely documentation in the electronic health record (EHR)

  • Educate patients and families on diagnoses, treatments, and recovery expectations

  • Adhere to infection prevention, patient safety standards, and ICU best practices

Medical-Surgical Experience Applied to ICU

  • Strong foundation in patient assessment, medication administration, and interdisciplinary care coordination

  • Experience managing complex patient populations with multiple comorbidities

  • Proven ability to prioritize tasks, manage time effectively, and function in fast-paced clinical environments

  • Skilled in patient education, discharge planning, and effective communication with care teams

Skills & Competencies

  • Critical thinking and rapid clinical decision-making

  • Cardiac monitoring and rhythm interpretation (basic to intermediate)

  • IV therapy and medication administration

  • Familiarity with ventilators and hemodynamic monitoring (training/in progress)

  • Strong communication, adaptability, and teamwork skills

  • Ability to remain calm and effective under pressure

Certifications & Education

  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license

  • BLS – Required

  • ACLS – Preferred / In Progress

  • ICU training, residency, or preceptorship (if applicable)
