Job Title: Call Center Technician / Engineering Technician I (Contract)
Location: Burke, VA
Assignment Duration: 11 Weeks
We are seeking a dependable Call Center Technician (Engineering Technician I) to support utility and emergency response operations. This role provides frontline customer service and technical support by managing incoming communications, dispatching field crews, monitoring system alarms, and maintaining accurate records. The position requires strong communication, problem-solving skills, and the ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced, high-responsibility environment.
Provide professional customer service to residents, business owners, and public agencies
Answer, respond to, transfer, and document phone calls, emails, and electronic communications related to sewer and stormwater emergencies and maintenance requests
Use GIS applications to research infrastructure locations and ownership to support field investigations
Create, update, and close service requests and work orders within asset management systems
Maintain daily, weekly, and biweekly logs, boards, and staff availability records
Monitor pumping station alarms via SCADA and related monitoring systems
Log personnel activity and relay alarm status to appropriate technical teams
Dispatch crews and inspectors using electronic communication tools and document arrival and departure times
Maintain knowledge of environmental regulations, reporting requirements, and agency policies
Prepare initial compliance reports related to sanitary sewer overflows and backup events
Perform additional administrative and technical support duties as assigned
Strong accountability and ownership of assigned tasks
Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
Clear and effective verbal and written communication
Strong problem-solving and triage abilities
Flexibility to work extended hours, weekends, holidays, and during emergency or inclement weather situations
Ability to work efficiently in high-pressure, time-sensitive environments
Knowledge of wastewater and stormwater systems
Experience supporting field crews or working in a utility or field agency environment
Experience operating communication and dispatch equipment
Basic familiarity with tax map grids and infrastructure mapping
Experience with asset management systems for work orders and maintenance history
Working knowledge of GIS applications
Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
Minimum of one year of engineering technical support or related experience
Equivalent combination of education, training, and work experience accepted
High School Diploma or GED required
Preferred Education:
One year of post-secondary vocational training or completion of one year of an applied science associate degree
Training typically conducted weekdays between 7:00 AM – 4:30 PM
Post-training shifts may include weekends, overnight shifts, holidays, and extended 12-hour shifts
On-site presence required for emergency response and alarm monitoring
Ability to communicate clearly in person, by phone, and electronically
Ability to sit for extended periods during 12-hour shifts
Ability to walk, stoop, bend, and reach as needed
Ability to respond on-site to alarms, open security gates, and support emergency crews
Must be able to safely use required personal protective equipment in outdoor environments
