Behavioral Health / Dementia Care
We are seeking an experienced Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to support a secured behavioral health unit specializing in dementia care. The LPN will provide direct patient care in a locked unit environment, utilizing behavioral management and de-escalation techniques to ensure patient safety and quality care.
Shift Type: Mid Shift
Shift Length: 8 hours
Hours: 2:00 PM – 10:00 PM
Schedule: 5 shifts per week
Assignment Type: Contract / Travel
Duration: 13 weeks
Locked behavioral health / dementia care unit
Average daily census: 20 patients
Total beds: 20
Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:20 (days and weekends)
Provide nursing care to residents in a secured dementia care unit
Utilize behavior management and de-escalation protocols to maintain a safe environment
Monitor and document vital signs, intake and output, and blood glucose levels
Administer medications and treatments as ordered
Maintain isolation precautions and infection control standards
Label and process specimens accurately
Monitor and report changes in patient condition
Assist in managing assaultive or aggressive behaviors using approved techniques
Float within scope of practice based on facility needs
Document patient care using the electronic medical record system (EPIC)
Active LPN license
Minimum 2 years of experience in behavioral health, dementia care, or skilled nursing
Current BLS certification
Experience working in a locked unit environment
Proficiency with EPIC charting system
Behavioral management techniques
Managing assaultive behavior
De-escalation protocols
Blood glucose monitoring/testing
Intake and output monitoring
Isolation precautions
Vital sign monitoring
