Job Title: Director of Labor Management

Location: 100% Remote
Assignment Type: Contract
Duration: 3+ Months (with possible extension)
Schedule: Monday – Friday | 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Position Overview

A healthcare organization is seeking an experienced Director of Labor Management to lead enterprise-wide labor management strategy, systems optimization, and workforce productivity initiatives. This role provides strategic and operational leadership for labor forecasting, utilization, productivity analytics, and workforce optimization across a large healthcare system.

The ideal candidate will bring deep experience in healthcare labor management systems, workforce analytics, and cross-functional leadership, with a strong focus on driving consistency, efficiency, and data-driven decision-making.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, configuration, deployment, and ongoing optimization of a cloud-based workforce management application suite, including time & labor, absence management, and advanced scheduling solutions.

  • Coordinate and manage cross-functional teams including operations, clinical leadership, HR, finance, IT, and external vendors across all phases of the system lifecycle.

  • Establish and standardize labor management policies, tools, procedures, and productivity analytics to support enterprise-wide efficiency and utilization goals.

  • Maintain and enhance labor management infrastructure to ensure accurate, timely, and reliable productivity and utilization data.

  • Monitor labor performance metrics and develop dashboards, reports, and analytics to support executive decision-making.

  • Partner with finance and operational leadership during budgeting and forecasting cycles to align labor analytics with organizational targets.

  • Develop and deliver training programs to ensure consistent adoption and effective use of labor management tools.

  • Lead workforce planning initiatives including staffing forecasts, labor impact analysis, and productivity optimization.

  • Analyze real-time and historical labor data to identify trends, risks, and improvement opportunities.

  • Develop methodologies to measure performance against productivity and utilization targets.

  • Oversee daily labor management operations to ensure consistency, accountability, and continuous improvement.

  • Provide leadership and guidance to direct and matrixed teams supporting labor management initiatives.

  • Establish regular communication cadences to report on performance, budgets, staffing needs, and service levels.

  • Partner with HR leadership on workforce strategies that impact staffing models, labor spend, and employee retention.

  • Ensure productivity targets align with monthly and annual budget goals and support campus-level planning efforts.

  • Evaluate productivity, turnover, and volume trends prior to approving premium labor utilization.

Required Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree (required)

  • Master’s Degree (preferred)

Required Experience, Knowledge & Skills

  • Minimum 7 years of healthcare experience

  • Minimum 7 years of leadership or management experience

  • Proven experience with healthcare labor management systems

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and data interpretation skills

  • Excellent written, verbal, and stakeholder communication skills

  • Advanced proficiency with spreadsheets, databases, reporting tools, and presentation software

  • Ability to lead enterprise-wide initiatives in a highly matrixed environment

  • Strong organizational and change management capabilities
