Job Title: Dietitian / Nutrition Specialist

Location: Syracuse, NY
Contract Duration: 13 Weeks
Shift: Day Shift
Schedule: Monday – Friday | 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
Hours: 42.5 hours/week
Weekend Coverage: Required as scheduled

Position Overview

A healthcare facility is seeking an experienced Inpatient Dietitian to provide comprehensive medical nutrition therapy across a diverse patient population. This role supports infants, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients in an inpatient and critical care setting.

Responsibilities

  • Perform nutrition screening, assessment, diagnosis, intervention, and monitoring using the Malnutrition Screening Tool

  • Document nutrition assessments and care plans accurately in the electronic medical record

  • Provide Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) to improve nutritional status, reduce complications, and decrease length of stay

  • Implement and modify diet orders, supplements, texture modifications, and nutrition-related labs per physician-driven protocols

  • Manage nutrition support therapies, including enteral and parenteral nutrition (formula selection, rate adjustments, additives, and hydration needs)

  • Provide nutrition education and counseling to patients and families

  • Participate in interdisciplinary patient care rounds and collaborate with physicians and care teams

  • Contribute to Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) initiatives

  • Attend departmental meetings, staff development sessions, and professional education programs

Required Qualifications

  • Registered Dietitian (RD) credential

  • Minimum 2+ years of inpatient and/or critical care experience

  • Strong knowledge of clinical nutrition assessment and nutrition support therapies

  • Excellent documentation, communication, and interdisciplinary collaboration skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • CNSC certification

  • Experience in acute-care hospital settings

  • Familiarity with nutrition-related protocols and performance improvement programs
