Job Title: Sterile Processing Technician (SPT)

Shift: Night – 5x8 Hours (11:00 PM – 7:30 AM)


Position Summary

The Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for the safe and effective decontamination, assembly, sterilization, and distribution of surgical instruments and trays used in operating rooms and other clinical areas. This role ensures adherence to infection control standards, aseptic techniques, and departmental policies to support patient safety and clinical efficiency.


Schedule Details

  • Monday through Friday: 11:00 PM – 7:30 AM

  • Rotating weekends and holidays based on departmental needs


Key Responsibilities

  • Perform decontamination, cleaning, disinfection, assembly, and sterilization of surgical instruments and trays

  • Apply principles of aseptic technique and infection prevention consistently

  • Operate and monitor equipment used for cleaning, disinfecting, and sterilizing surgical instruments

  • Assemble both simple and complex surgical instrument sets accurately and efficiently

  • Operate sterilization equipment, including steam sterilizers, low-temperature systems, and related technologies

  • Monitor, document, and record sterilization and decontamination processes in accordance with policy

  • Conduct quality checks to ensure accuracy, reliability, and compliance with standards

  • Respond promptly to urgent and emergent requests from clinical staff

  • Maintain proper handling, storage, and distribution of sterile supplies


Required Qualifications

  • Successful completion of a nationally accredited Central Service Technician certification exam OR

  • Minimum of 1 year of employment experience as a Central Service Technician in a healthcare facility

  • Ability to successfully pass pre-employment health clearance

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to patient safety

  • Ability to work independently during night shifts while collaborating with clinical teams
