Job Title: IT Infrastructure Engineer – Mainframe Systems

Job Description: We are seeking a highly experienced IT Infrastructure Engineer to lead and manage a Mainframe Systems team within a large-scale enterprise IT environment. This leadership role will oversee daily operations, performance management, hardware and software upgrades, and disaster recovery planning for mainframe systems. The ideal candidate is a self-motivated problem solver with strong leadership and communication skills, capable of guiding a technical team while collaborating across departments.
Key Responsibilities:
Team Oversight:
Lead the Mainframe Systems team, ensuring operational efficiency, collaboration, and adherence to SLA requirements.
Provide expertise in z/OS administration, performance management, hardware configuration, and disaster recovery solutions.
Mentor team members, manage task assignments, and oversee performance.
Participate in troubleshooting critical production incidents, including off-hours coverage as needed.
Performance, Monitoring, and Capacity Planning:
Analyze mainframe system performance and capacity data.
Conduct daily, monthly, and annual capacity planning to support business needs.
Project Planning:
Lead projects for hardware and software upgrades.
Develop and manage project plans and ensure timely completion of initiatives.
Guide and mentor team members on project execution.
Software Version Management:
Track mainframe software releases and maintenance requirements.
Ensure the team stays current on all software versions and patches.
Vendor Management:
Serve as liaison to software and hardware vendors for capacity planning and support.
Build and maintain vendor relationships to optimize service delivery.
New Technologies:
Evaluate emerging technologies relevant to mainframe or enterprise infrastructure.
Implement solutions aligned with organizational needs.
Documentation:
Maintain comprehensive documentation and standard operating procedures for mainframe systems.
Ensure procedural documents are accurate and current.
Fiscal Planning:
Develop budgetary plans for hardware and software costs, including upgrades, end-of-life replacements, and consolidation initiatives.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field and 4 years of experience in datacenter engineering, cloud operations, or complex IT infrastructure management; OR
Bachelor’s degree with 8 years of relevant experience; OR
Equivalent education and/or experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
20+ years of experience managing IT infrastructure in large-scale environments.
Deep knowledge of mainframe systems, z/OS, subsystems, and enterprise storage.
Strong experience with AIX, Linux, or Unix systems is acceptable if mainframe experience is limited.
Proven ability in problem analysis, resolution, and technical team leadership.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills.
Ability to plan, manage time effectively, and lead projects to completion.
