Job Title: Surgical Coordinator

Location: New York, NY
Duration: 3 Months
Shift: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM
Rate: $21.00/hr (W2)

Job Summary

The Surgical Coordinator is responsible for ensuring efficient and accurate scheduling of surgical procedures while delivering high-quality administrative and patient service support within the surgical department. This role manages front-office workflow, verifies patient and insurance information, coordinates clinical data between providers, and facilitates all scheduling activities to support seamless surgical operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and manage front office workflow to ensure smooth and efficient service delivery.

  • Verify patient demographics and secure pre-certification from insurance carriers for all OR procedures.

  • Obtain necessary medical clearances directly from providers or referring offices.

  • Address patient questions, concerns, and assist with policy or procedural explanations.

  • Place surgical confirmation calls one day prior to scheduled procedures.

  • Schedule post-operative follow-up appointments with providers.

  • Serve as liaison between referring physicians and surgeons to coordinate clinical data and OR scheduling needs.

  • Train and mentor junior scheduling staff or Surgical Scheduling Coordinators as assigned.

  • Collect, prepare, and distribute all documentation required for surgical coordination to internal and external parties.

  • Enter hospital reservation and pre-admission data into the CERNER system.

  • Perform additional duties or responsibilities as assigned.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of surgical scheduling experience.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Excellent customer service with the ability to resolve issues professionally.

  • High level of accuracy and strong attention to detail.

Education

Required:

  • High School Diploma

Preferred:

  • Associate’s Degree

Preferred Certifications & Licensure

  • Certificate in Medical Technology

  • Certificate in ICD-9

  • Certificate in CPT Coding
