Location: Houston, TX
The Lead Data Scientist is responsible for driving advanced analytics initiatives and leading complex data science projects across the organization. This role oversees the analysis of large, diverse, and unstructured datasets using advanced statistical and machine-learning methods to support data-driven decision-making. The Lead Data Scientist partners with cross-functional teams, mentors other data scientists, and provides strategic insights on high-impact business challenges. This position typically reports to a Data Science Manager.
Bachelor’s degree in Science, Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or another STEM-related field (required)
Master’s degree in Data Science preferred
7+ years of data science experience
Experience in healthcare analytics, hospital operations, medical informatics, EHR data, or healthcare IT (preferred)
Strong business analysis capabilities, including workflow analysis, modeling, and process evaluation
Deep understanding of machine learning techniques (e.g., clustering, neural networks, decision trees) and their practical applications
Advanced proficiency in statistical methods (regression, statistical testing, distribution properties, etc.)
Strong experience communicating insights, gathering requirements, and storytelling with data
Advanced knowledge of the data science life cycle, model development, and deployment
Proficiency in programming languages commonly used in data science (e.g., Python, R)
Strong SQL skills and experience with large, complex datasets
Exceptional problem-solving, analytical reasoning, and decision-making abilities
Ability to manage multiple projects independently in fast-paced environments
Excellent written and verbal communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences
Strong project management skills with a commitment to delivering high-quality work
Ability to troubleshoot and resolve data quality issues
Experience working with time-series forecasting, A/B testing, clustering, and other data science methods
Ability to mentor junior team members and support broader data literacy initiatives
Lead and manage high-impact data science projects that support business strategy and operational improvements
Provide technical leadership and mentorship to data science team members
Develop advanced statistical models, predictive algorithms, and machine-learning solutions
Conduct research and analysis on structured and unstructured datasets to uncover actionable insights
Maintain, evaluate, and refine existing analytical models to ensure accuracy and relevance
Communicate findings clearly and effectively to leadership and cross-functional teams
Partner with internal stakeholders to identify data issues and optimize data processes for efficiency and scalability
Support evaluation and selection of data science tools and vendors
Contribute to building data science best practices, frameworks, and methodologies
Promote continuous learning, development, and knowledge sharing within the team
Uphold organizational standards related to quality, compliance, and operational excellence
Participate in professional development, continuing education, and team-based initiatives
