Job Title: Sterile Processing Technician
Location: Cincinnati, OH 45219
Assignment Duration: 13 Weeks
Shift: 5x8 - Evenings (3:00 PM – 11:30 PM)
Pay: $1,342 Weekly Gross
The Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for the decontamination, cleaning, sterilization, and preparation of surgical instruments, trays, equipment, and supplies. This role ensures adherence to strict infection control standards and supports surgical services by maintaining accurate records, assembling case carts, and ensuring timely delivery of properly sterilized items.
Decontamination & Cleaning:
Disassemble, clean, and disinfect reusable instruments and patient-care equipment using correct manual and mechanical procedures.
Operate decontamination equipment such as sonic washers, cart washers, washer sterilizers, and decontaminators.
Follow universal precautions, including required PPE.
Retrieve reusable instruments from designated areas and return them to Sterile Processing.
Preparation & Assembly:
Unload washer sterilizers and distribute instruments to appropriate workstations.
Assemble instrument trays and packs per written instructions and standardized protocols.
Inspect instruments for proper functionality and sharpness.
Identify and label all packaged items accurately.
Apply sterilization wrappers correctly to maintain sterile integrity.
Use heat sealers as needed.
Sterilization Processes:
Load and operate sterilizers, selecting appropriate cycles and parameters.
Demonstrate knowledge of steam, Sterrad, and other sterilization methods.
Document sterilization cycles manually or electronically.
Perform biological monitoring per department policy.
Ensure sterile supplies are stored correctly and rotated appropriately.
Operational & Support Duties:
Monitor equipment for proper functioning.
Pull supplies and instruments using surgical preference cards.
Restock, rotate, and maintain sterile storage areas.
Perform final quality control checks before items leave the department.
Restock and manage procedural carts.
Respond to OR and PACU supply requests as needed.
Assist with training new staff.
Participate in emergency codes when required.
Attend required meetings and in-services.
Follow department guidelines for sterility and workflow.
Minimum 2 years of Central Service/Sterile Processing experience.
Ability to recognize and memorize a wide variety of surgical instruments.
Knowledge of sterilization procedures, equipment, and infection control practices.
High school diploma or GED required.
CRCST (Certified Registered Central Service Technician) required.
