We are seeking a highly skilled Product Designer with direct experience designing user interfaces for hardware-integrated systems. This role focuses on creating intuitive, user-centered experiences for physical products—especially within regulated industries such as medical devices, imaging systems, or other complex hardware environments.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in hardware UX design, experience conducting Formative and Summative usability testing, and a solid understanding of risk management practices such as User FMEA and Known Use Error Reporting. Proficiency in Figma and experience working within structured design systems are essential.
Design user interfaces for hardware-based systems, ensuring seamless interaction between physical and digital components.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams including engineering, product management, and regulatory compliance to ensure design alignment.
Conduct and support Formative and Summative usability testing in compliance with regulated industry standards.
Contribute to User FMEA and Known Use Error Reports to identify and mitigate usability risks.
Develop and maintain high-fidelity prototypes in Figma, leveraging a structured design system.
Translate complex technical requirements into user-friendly interface solutions.
Advocate for user-centered design principles throughout the product development lifecycle.
Proven experience designing UX/UI for hardware-integrated systems (not purely digital or app-based).
Background in regulated industries such as medical devices, healthcare, or imaging systems.
Hands-on experience with Formative and Summative usability testing methodologies.
Familiarity with User FMEA and Known Use Error Reporting.
Advanced proficiency in Figma and structured design system workflows.
Strong communication and collaboration skills across multidisciplinary teams.
Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), UX Design, or a related field preferred.
Experience with FDA-regulated product design or IEC 62366 / ISO 14971 usability standards.
Familiarity with embedded systems, control panels, or physical interfaces.
Excellent visual design sensibility with attention to usability and accessibility.
This position is onsite in Waukesha, WI.
Duration: 11-month contract with potential for extension.
Candidates must have prior experience working on hardware-integrated UX projects in a regulated environment.
