Orthodontic Dental Assistant

Location: Little Rock, AR 72211
Duration: 1 Year
Pay Rate: $21/hour
Position Type: PRN (as needed)


Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Orthodontic Dental Assistant to provide chairside support to orthodontists and ensure efficient, high-quality patient care. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, skilled in orthodontic assisting techniques, and comfortable working in a fast-paced clinical environment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and maintain treatment rooms and instruments in compliance with infection control and sterilization standards.

  • Assist the orthodontist with procedures such as wire adjustments, bracket bonding, impressions, and appliance fittings.

  • Take and process digital dental radiographs, photographs, and impressions.

  • Support patients before, during, and after procedures by providing education and reassurance.

  • Maintain accurate patient records and charting in the dental software system.

  • Coordinate with front office staff regarding scheduling, referrals, and patient follow-up.

  • Manage inventory, order orthodontic materials, and ensure equipment readiness.

  • Adhere to OSHA, HIPAA, and safety regulations while promoting a positive, team-oriented environment.


Required Skills & Experience

  • Minimum 1 year of experience as a Dental Assistant (Orthodontic experience preferred).

  • Proficient in chairside assisting and patient communication.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a clinical team.


Preferred Skills

  • Familiarity with dental software and electronic charting systems.

  • Experience assisting with orthodontic procedures and digital imaging.


Education

  • Completion of an accredited Dental Assistant program OR at least one year of hands-on dental assisting experience.


Certifications & Licensure

  • CPR Certification (required)

  • X-Ray Certification (required)

  • Expanded Function Dental Assistant (EFDA) certification — CODA or state board approved (required)
