Job Title: Patient Care Associate (PCA) – Specialty Services

Location: New York, NY 

Contract Duration: 13+ weeks (with possible extension)

Shifts Available:

  • Night: 11:00 PM – 7:15 AM

  • Evening: 3:00 PM – 11:15 PM

  • Morning: 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM

Position Summary:

The Patient Care Associate (PCA) is an essential member of the clinical care team, providing direct patient care and support services to ensure patient-focused care within specialty units. The PCA assists Registered Nurses (RNs) with clinical tasks, patient activities of daily living, and maintaining a safe, clean, and efficient care environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Measure and record vital signs (BP, pulse, temperature, respirations) and intake/output.

  • Assist with clinical procedures, including specimen collection, EKGs, venipuncture, post-mortem care, and maintaining skin integrity.

  • Support patients with daily living activities: feeding, bathing, toileting, ambulation, and positioning.

  • Assist with dietary functions, including meal delivery, menu collection, and nutritional reporting.

  • Maintain a safe, clean, and functional environment, including room upkeep and patient comfort.

  • Perform one-to-one or close observation for patients requiring monitoring.

  • Follow infection control and isolation protocols under RN guidance.

  • Conduct purposeful rounding with focus on patient comfort, pain awareness, and toileting needs.

  • Document care activities and notify RNs of issues or missed rounding.

  • Use communication systems (e.g., Vocera) appropriately and maintain documentation.

  • Support diverse patient populations with cultural sensitivity and respect for individual needs.

  • Assist with unit logistics, including patient transport, specimen delivery, and supply maintenance.

  • Perform shared duties across units: emergency cleanup, discharge bedmaking, updating logs, and assembling medical records.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • AHA HeartSaver or BLS certification required.

  • 3–9 months of healthcare experience preferred.

  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to prioritize, adapt to complex situations, and work effectively in a team.

  • Physical stamina and dexterity to perform patient care and unit support tasks.

  • Ability to work in varied clinical and environmental settings.
