Job Title: Registered Nurse (RN)
Location: Ontario (Remote Northern Communities) [Mooseonee, Moose Factory, Attawapiskat, Fort Albany]
Type: Contract / Assignment

Mandatory Requirements

  • Licensed to practice in Ontario with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO), with no restrictions.

  • Must work within the regulated scope of practice for:

    • Registered Nurse in the General Class

    • Registered Practical Nurse

    • Registered Nurse in the Extended Class (as applicable, defined by CNO).

  • Canadian Triage and Acuity Scale (CTAS)

  • Basic Life Support (BLS)

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)

  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)

  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC)

  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)

  • Physical Assessment (all ages)

  • Remote Nursing

  • Suturing

  • Venipuncture

  • Intravenous (IV) Management

  • Electrocardiogram (ECG)

  • Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) Certification

Key Requirements & Deliverables

Registered Nurses (RNs) must have specialized training and experience to serve in remote and northern communities.

  • Remote northern nursing experience required.

  • Up-to-date with COVID-19 immunization and mask fitting.

  • Emergency Room or Nursing Station experience.

  • Ability to work as a Flight Nursing Medical Escort.

  • Provide culturally safe care to individuals, families, and communities.

  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare team members.

  • Perform health assessments across the lifespan (Adults, Pediatrics, Obstetrics/Gynecology).

  • Adapt assessment techniques based on condition and developmental stage using inspection, palpation, percussion, and auscultation.

  • Identify variations from normal findings and synthesize data for treatment planning.

  • Apply knowledge of common health conditions affecting clients across the lifespan.

  • Interpret assessment findings and determine the need for diagnostic tests or referrals.

  • Communicate clear and precise patient history and assessment findings verbally and in writing.

  • Recognize urgent and emergent conditions and provide appropriate stabilization, monitoring, referral, and follow-up care.

  • Demonstrate knowledge of telephone triage protocols.
