Schedule: Monday – Friday (Full-Time; overtime, weekends, and holidays may be required based on payroll deadlines)
We are seeking a detail-oriented and reliable Payroll Coordinator to support our payroll operations during a 5-month assignment. This position requires strong attention to detail, time management, and excellent communication skills. Overtime is eligible, and extra pay is provided for work on holidays.
Enter payroll exception data into payroll systems; research and resolve discrepancies, make corrections, and document changes. Review payroll data and supporting documentation for accuracy and completeness. Reconcile payroll to various reports.
Maintain payroll records and follow appropriate records retention protocols.
Enter and validate timekeeping data to ensure accuracy and compliance with applicable labor contracts, policies, and laws.
Research and respond to payroll-related inquiries from employees, supervisors, and external organizations. Serve as a resource for payroll-related issues.
With oversight, reconcile payroll deduction reports, prepare third-party payments, and review general ledger balances.
Reconcile and process employee leaves and supplemental pay types (FMLA, PFML, STDi, LTD, Workers’ Compensation, donated sick leave) based on data provided by internal teams and third-party vendors. Ensure approvals and documentation are in place for adjustments.
Investigate payroll variances and questionable items; validate entries and obtain necessary approvals and signatures.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum of 3 years of payroll processing experience, including the use of payroll software systems.
Ability to work a standard Monday–Friday schedule, with flexibility for extended hours, weekends, and holidays as needed.
Associate’s degree or a 2-year technical certification in accounting or a related field may substitute for 1.5 years of experience.
Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
General knowledge of payroll processing and accounting principles.
Familiarity with payroll-related labor laws, including FMLA and FLSA.

Strong collaboration and team-building skills.
Experience with automated payroll systems.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel, Word, Outlook).
Excellent time management and ability to meet strict payroll deadlines.
Attention to detail, with strong skills in math, typing, and 10-key entry.
Effective written and verbal communication across all levels of an organization.
Experience with PeopleSoft, Trapeze, or UKG payroll systems.
Background in public sector, union-represented workforces, or the transit industry.
Work is performed in an office environment with standard office equipment and technology.
May involve movement between office buildings and occasional exposure to noisy environments.
May occasionally be required to lift and carry materials up to 10 pounds.
