Job Title: Medical Billing Coordinator
Location: New York, NY 10017
Shift: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Duration: 3+ month contract
Pay Rate: $20/hour (W2)

Position Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented Medical Billing Coordinator with strong knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding to join our team on a contract basis. This role is critical in ensuring accuracy in billing practices, compliance with insurance guidelines, and proper use of medical terminology.

Must have:

Strong knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding experience.  This role requires accuracy in billing practices, proficiency in medical terminology and strong understanding of insurance guidelines and compliance standards.   

Key Responsibilities

  • Verify the accuracy of billing forms and enter essential data into appropriate databases for timely and optimal reimbursement.

  • Investigate billing inquiries by reviewing documentation for completeness and accuracy, including CPT and ICD-9 coding, physician details, insurance coverage, TOA, and other relevant data.

  • Prepare documentation for account inquiries and resolutions.

  • Maintain a database of account inquiry information and generate reports or summaries as needed.

  • Investigate causes for claim denials and follow established protocols to achieve resolution.

  • Communicate with patients and other involved parties regarding open accounts, discrepancies, installment arrangements, and related matters.

Required Skills & Experience

  • 2–3 years of medical billing experience, including Medicare, Medicaid, and third-party reimbursement.

  • Proficiency in ICD-10 and CPT coding (ICD-9 knowledge also beneficial).

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to maintain confidentiality of patient information.

  • Effective communication skills for interacting with patients, staff, and physicians under varying circumstances.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work well under pressure.

  • Solid understanding of medical terminology.

  • Accuracy in recording and maintaining financial records.

Preferred Skills & Experience

  • Experience in accounting or financial reporting.

  • Prior supervisory experience.

Education

  • Required: Associate’s Degree.

  • Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or Accounting.
