Contract Type: 40 hours/week
Schedule: Monday – Friday | 3:00 PM – 11:30 PM | 5 x 8 hr shifts
Weekend/Holiday/On-Call/Float Requirements: None
Required Experience: 5+ years
Required Certifications: CRCST or CBSPD

Job Summary:

The Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for the cleaning, processing, sterilization, and distribution of surgical instrumentation, reusable medical/surgical items, and patient care equipment. The technician also supports case cart preparation for surgical procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Clean, sort, assemble, and sterilize patient care equipment and surgical instruments according to departmental standards.

  • Operate sterilizers including Steam, ETO, Sterrad, and Steris; perform and document biological and Bowie-Dick testing as required.

  • Ensure accurate completion of sterilization records, including proper labeling, integrator readings, and printer log reviews.

  • Use computerized instrument count sheets for item tracking and tray preparation.

  • Assemble surgical case carts based on surgeons’ preferences, and communicate any shortages to the OR team.

  • Utilize proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and adhere to Universal Precautions at all times.

  • Maintain familiarity with all cleaning agents, detergents, and disinfection protocols.

  • Lift a minimum of 50 lbs., push/pull a minimum of 60 lbs., and stand for the duration of the shift.

  • Adhere to institutional organizational competencies and protocols.

Qualifications:

Required Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Completion of a Central Processing Course or 1+ year of experience in instrument processing

  • Availability to work every other weekend and 3 of 6 holidays as scheduled

  • Willingness to work rotating shifts/schedules per operational needs
