Job Title: Accounts Payable Specialist

Location: Hillsboro, OR (On-Site)
Duration: 3 Months (with strong potential for extension)


About the Role

We are seeking a detail-oriented, dependable Accounts Payable Specialist to support a fast-paced accounting department for a respected organization located in Hillsboro, Oregon. This position is responsible for performing a variety of accounting, billing, and reconciliation tasks including reviewing financial documents, maintaining accurate vendor records, and supporting internal and external inquiries.

This is an on-site role requiring excellent attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to provide high-quality customer service in a team environment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Process and verify financial documents and transactions

  • Route and post invoices; verify payment authorizations

  • Perform daily deposits, reconcile transactions, and manage A/P entries

  • Maintain vendor data and prepare annual 1099 filings

  • Audit purchasing card activity and manage unclaimed property tracking

  • Support month-end and financial reporting through journal entries and data compilation

  • Respond to billing and payment inquiries from internal departments and external vendors

  • Enter and maintain accurate data in financial systems

  • Organize and prepare accounting correspondence and reports

  • Assist in procedural training for internal staff and budgeting processes

  • Ensure proper recordkeeping and archiving according to retention policies


Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in accounting, finance, or bookkeeping

  • Proven experience with accounts payable, financial systems, and reconciliation

  • Proficiency in data entry and cash handling

  • Strong communication, organizational, and time management skills

  • Ability to work effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders

  • Knowledge of relevant financial regulations at the federal, state, and local levels

  • Valid driver’s license with a safe driving record


Preferred (Nice to Have)

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) for enhanced communication

  • Experience providing training or mentorship in financial systems

  • Familiarity with municipal budgeting or public sector accounting


Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Standard office environment with regular use of computers and other office equipment

  • May involve sitting for long periods, light lifting (up to 10 lbs), and repetitive motions

  • Occasional local travel may be required

  • Must be able to work in a dynamic setting that may involve interacting with the public or handling sensitive situations
