Shift Options: 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM or 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM

Job Summary

A leading healthcare facility in the Bronx is seeking a licensed Pathology Assistant to support its anatomical pathology services. The ideal candidate will be experienced in grossing surgical specimens and performing autopsies. This position involves working both independently and collaboratively in specimen processing and laboratory operations, contributing to high-quality diagnostic services and improved patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Gross surgical tissue specimens, including description, dissection, and sectioning for further diagnostic testing (e.g., frozen sections, histology, bio-banking).

  • Perform human postmortem examinations, including external examination, dissection, and collection of tissues and fluids.

  • Accession, label, store, and dispose of specimens according to established protocols.

  • Photograph specimens as required, maintaining image quality standards.

  • Maintain laboratory cleanliness, equipment functionality, and inventory of supplies.

  • Calibrate, operate, and troubleshoot medical and diagnostic instruments.

  • Ensure compliance with safety, infection control, and laboratory protocols.

  • Maintain accurate records and documentation in line with hospital and regulatory standards.

  • Assist with data analysis, reporting, and lab-related research efforts.

  • Comply with standards set by accrediting organizations and institutional policies.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree required.

  • Licensure: Current New York State license and registration as a Pathologists’ Assistant issued by the New York State Education Department (NYSED).

  • Experience:

    • Minimum 1 year of clinical or hospital experience grossing specimens and conducting autopsies.

    • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

    • Ability to work independently and adhere to strict procedural and safety protocols.

    • Effective communication skills.
