Job Title: Patient Care Technician (PCT) – Med Surg/Tele

Location: Neptune, NJ
Shift: Night Shift | 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
Schedule: 3x12-hour shifts per week | Every Other Weekend Required | Holiday Required | No On-Call
Assignment Length: 13 Weeks

Job Summary:

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) will assist registered nurses in providing high-quality care for patients within a Med Surg/Telemetry unit. The PCT will contribute to the clinical environment by supporting patient assessments, procedures, and overall care coordination, with an emphasis on safety, comfort, and responsiveness.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Greet patients and verify ID wristbands.

  • Assist with admission, physical examinations, and patient preparation for procedures.

  • Draw blood specimens (IV/capillary) and perform EKGs as directed.

  • Support patient transport and ensure cleanliness and readiness of patient rooms.

  • Assist patients with meals, hygiene, toileting, and other daily activities.

  • Take and document vital signs, weights, intake/output, and blood glucose levels.

  • Communicate changes in patient conditions promptly to RNs.

  • Respond to call lights and promote a safe, comfortable environment.

  • Recognize patient-specific needs (age, language, culture) and adapt care accordingly.

  • Restock supplies and maintain cleanliness in the unit.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Minimum 1 year of Patient Care Technician experience in a hospital setting.

  • Proficiency in IV insertion, phlebotomy, and electronic medical record systems (EPIC).

Education & Certification:

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • BLS/CPR certification (American Heart Association).

  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), or Patient Care Technician (PCT) certification — including completed training in Phlebotomy, EKG, and nursing assistant procedures (both clinical and theoretical).
