Job Title: Patient Care Associate (PCA) – Psychiatry
Location: New York, NY 
Schedule: Monday – Friday | 3:00 PM – 11:15 PM
Hours Per Week: 37.5 | Weekend and holiday availability required

Position Summary:
We are seeking a compassionate and experienced Patient Care Associate (PCA) to join the inpatient psychiatry team. This role is essential in supporting the clinical team and delivering quality care to patients with psychiatric and behavioral health needs. The ideal candidate will have prior experience in mental health or a related field, possess key technical skills, and be comfortable working in a dynamic, multidisciplinary setting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the admission process by orienting patients to the unit, securing valuables, reviewing rules, and assisting with personal care.

  • Participate in the development and implementation of nursing care and interdisciplinary treatment plans.

  • Provide direct patient care including vital signs, personal hygiene, EKGs, and basic specimen collection.

  • Engage in therapeutic and recreational group activities with patients.

  • Offer supportive counseling and maintain contact with families and discharge planners.

  • Serve as a patient escort within and outside the facility (e.g., for tests, programs, or outings).

  • Assist with crisis interventions including physical restraint and seclusion as per policy.

  • Respond to emergencies including CPR and assist in Code 77 protocols.

  • Maintain infection control procedures and ensure patient safety.

  • Document care activities using the Epic system.

Required Qualifications:

  • Education:

    • High School Diploma or equivalent and 2 years of full-time experience in law enforcement, psychiatric/behavioral health, mental health population, counseling, or group/family dynamics
      OR

    • Associate’s degree, preferably with a focus in mental health or related field

  • Certifications (Required):

    • BLS (American Heart Association)

    • Certificate of Medical Assistant Training

    • CPI or PMCS (must be active prior to offer)

    • SEL and SCR background checks

  • Skills & Experience:

    • Experience with venipuncture and EKGs

    • Experience working with mental health populations

    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

    • Proficiency with Epic (preferred)
