Job Title: Certified CPD Technician Endoscope Reprocessing
Location: Philadelphia, PA
Job Summary:
This role is responsible for providing on-site support for the reprocessing of flexible endoscopes and related devices and equipment. The technician ensures that all reusable surgical supplies, instruments, and equipment are properly decontaminated, inspected, assembled, packaged, sterilized, stored, inventoried, and appropriately tracked according to established departmental and hospital policies and procedures.
Job Functions
Essential Responsibilities: The technician’s responsibilities are divided into two key areas:
Primary Duties (Approximately 80% of the Role):
Reprocess flexible endoscopes per manufacturer’s Instructions for Use (IFUs) and in accordance with AAMI, SGNA, AORN, and CDC standards.
Maintain inventory of endoscopic and reprocessing equipment and supplies.
Conduct safety checks to ensure proper equipment function.
Verify compliance with documentation requirements.
Clean, disinfect, and calibrate scopes or other endoscopic instruments in alignment with manufacturer guidelines and Infection Control protocols.
Maintain optimal functionality of equipment and coordinate repairs per facility policy.
Demonstrate understanding of departmental policies and AAMI standards applicable to scope reprocessing.
Secondary Duties (Approximately 20% of the Role):
Assemble and process medical supplies, equipment, and instruments in line with productivity standards (average of 80% over 8–40 hours).
Operate sterilization and cleaning equipment including automated washers, ultrasonic washers, and endoscope reprocessors safely and efficiently.
Transport soiled instruments/devices per protocols and guidelines.
Sort, clean, and inspect items for safety, cleanliness, and proper functionality before repackaging.
Ensure 100% accuracy in processing complete instrument trays and documentation.
Use the SPM Instrument Tracking System proficiently.
Ensure proper high-level disinfection/sterilization (HLD/S) processes are followed and documented.
Maintain integrity of HLD/S items during distribution.
Meet patient-specific case cart requirements with accuracy and timeliness.
Maintain effective and timely communication across all levels of staff.
Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and adhere to all safety and dress code policies.
Ensure compliance with internal and external emergency protocols.
Qualifications
Education:
High School Diploma or GED – Required
Work Experience:
Experience with scope reprocessing – Required
At least two (2) years of experience in scope reprocessing and working in a central supply or operating room (O.R.) processing environment – Preferred
Licenses and Certifications:
Certified Endoscope Reprocessor (CER) from the Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) – Required within 18 months of hire
Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) from HSPA – Preferred upon hire
Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) from HSPA – Preferred upon hire
