Job Title: Medical Assistant - Contract
Location: NYC, NY 10530
Duration: 2 Months
Hours Per Week: 37.50
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM

Job Summary:

The Medical Assistant will provide patient care and clerical support in a clinical setting. Responsibilities include assisting patients, performing EKGs, venipuncture, preparing exam rooms, and ensuring the safe handling of medical records and supplies.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Assist patients with tasks such as walking, transferring, and dressing. Perform venipuncture, EKGs, vital signs checks, and specimen collection.
  2. Organize patient flow, assist physicians during procedures, and relay instructions to patients and families.
  3. Fulfill clerical duties including managing patient records, retrieving lab reports, and completing forms.
  4. Enter orders into the electronic medical record (EMR) or prepare prescription refills for physician approval.
  5. Inventory and re-stock medical supplies, maintain room sterilization, and manage expiration dates on medications and supplies.
  6. Maintain logging systems for medication refrigeration, sterilization processes, and other compliance needs.
  7. Ensure a safe work environment by following standards, procedures, and legal regulations.
  8. Adhere to personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements for handling hazardous substances.
  9. Assist with chart maintenance, filing, and organization of test results.
  10. May assist in scheduling surgeries, completing pre-admissions, and verifying surgery times with patients.
  11. Perform phlebotomy and schedule patient appointments as needed.
  12. Verify insurance details and perform pre-certification for procedures when required.

Required Skills:

  • Basic proficiency in MS Office Suite
  • Strong communication skills, especially with multicultural and language-deficit patients
  • Excellent telephone etiquette and knowledge of medical terminology and HIPAA guidelines
  • Adaptability to a growing and changing environment

Education and Certifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Completion of an approved Medical Assistant certificate course
  • BCLS certification required (AHA preferred)
  • Certified Medical Assistant preferred

Certifications & Licenses Required:

  • Medical Assistant certificate
  • BCLS certification (American Heart Association)
  • Phlebotomy certification

Languages: Proficiency in English (Speak, Read, Write)

Physical Activity: Heavy physical activity may be required, including frequent lifting and carrying.
