Job Title: Patient Care Associate (PCA) - Psychiatry

Location: New York, NY (10002)

Hours:

  • Per Week: 37.5
  • Per Day: 7.5
  • Days Per Week: 5
  • Schedule: 11:00 PM - 7:00 AM, including weekends and holidays
  • Availability: Must have active PMCS or CPI certification prior to offer

Job Summary: The Patient Care Associate (PCA) works as part of a multidisciplinary team delivering comprehensive services to patients in an inpatient psychiatric unit. This role involves direct care, therapeutic intervention, and assistance with patient admissions, discharge planning, and patient activities. The PCA will ensure patient safety and participate in care coordination alongside nursing and other staff.

Essential Duties:

  • Assist with patient admission, orientation to the unit, and secure belongings
  • Aid in developing and updating the Nursing Care Plan and Interdisciplinary Treatment Plan
  • Perform direct care duties, including taking vital signs, personal hygiene, and EKGs
  • Collect samples such as blood, urine, and sputum for testing
  • Lead and co-lead therapeutic and recreational patient activity groups
  • Assist in discharge planning and arranging necessary transportation
  • Escort patients within and outside the facility as needed
  • Intervene in crisis situations, including restraint of violent/aggressive patients and seclusion care
  • Support patients during discharge, maintaining contact with family as needed
  • Initiate CPR when necessary and assist in Code 77 procedures
  • Maintain infection control practices

Skills:

  • 2 years of experience in law enforcement, nursing, or psychiatric/behavioral health (or equivalent mental health-related work)
  • Venipuncture and EKG skills
  • Ability to work effectively with the mental health population

Education:

  • Required: High school diploma or equivalent with 2 years of relevant experience OR Associate’s degree in mental health or a related field

Certifications Required:

  • BLS (American Heart Association)
  • Medical Assistant training certificate
  • CPI or PMCS certification
  • SEL and SCR background checks

Certifications & Licenses: BLS, CPR, EKG, Venipuncture, and Infection Control

Language Requirements: English (Speak, Read, Write)
