Job Title: Medical Assistant - Contract
Location: Whippany, NJ 07981

Hours Per Week: 37.50
Hours Per Day: 7.50
Days Per Week: 5.00

Schedule: Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM

Job Duties:

  1. Perform patient care tasks, including venipuncture, EKGs, checking schedules, organizing patient flow, and assisting patients with walking, transferring, and dressing.
  2. Collect and process specimens, conduct point-of-care testing, and assist physicians with various procedures.
  3. Take vital signs, relay instructions, answer calls, and provide relevant information to patients and families.
  4. Handle clerical duties such as managing patient medical records, obtaining lab/x-ray reports, and completing necessary forms.
  5. Maintain charts to ensure information is properly filed using the electronic medical record (EMR) system or manually as needed.
  6. Enter orders into the EMR system or prepare prescription refill requests for physician approval.
  7. Inventory and restock medical supplies, ensuring proper sterilization and preparation of exam rooms.
  8. Maintain safety and health standards by following infection control policies, handling hazardous substances, and ensuring compliance with regulations.
  9. Assist in maintaining medical charts, scheduling surgeries or procedures, preparing pre-admission and consent forms.
  10. Perform proficient phlebotomy duties as required.
  11. Assist with patient appointment scheduling, insurance updates, and registration.
  12. Verify and update insurance information and complete pre-certifications for procedures as necessary.
  13. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Skills:

  • Basic computer skills and proficiency in MS Office Suite
  • Ability to communicate effectively with multicultural and language-deficient patients
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent telephone etiquette
  • Proficient in medical terminology and HIPAA guidelines
  • Experience with electronic medical record systems preferred

Education and Certification Requirements:

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Completion of an approved Medical Assistant certificate course
  • Basic Life Support (BCLS) certification required (AHA)
  • Certified Medical Assistant preferred
