Job Summary: A healthcare facility is seeking a Dental Assistant to join its dental team. The Dental Assistant will be responsible for assisting in providing dental services, including patient preparation, instrument sterilization, equipment maintenance, mixing dental materials, taking dental x-rays, and maintaining patient records.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Patient Preparation: Prepare patients for examination and treatment by ensuring they are comfortable and informed about the procedures.
  • Instrument Sterilization: Sterilize and maintain dental instruments and equipment, ensuring compliance with safety and infection control protocols.
  • Procedure Assistance: Assist the dentist during exams and treatments by providing necessary instruments and materials, mixing amalgams, cements, and composites.
  • Radiography: Take, develop, and mount dental x-rays as per the dentist's instructions.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate patient records and perform assigned laboratory procedures.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Ensure that all dental equipment is in proper working order and report any issues as needed.

Required Skills:

  • Experience: At least 1 year of experience as a Dental Assistant, including chairside assistance, radiography, and sterilization.
  • Language Proficiency: Proficiency in English is required; additional proficiency in Spanish, French, and Wolof is preferred.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with patients, dentists, and other team members.

Education:

  • Minimum Qualifications:
    1. A high school diploma or its educational equivalent, including or supplemented by at least 600 instructional hours at an approved school for Dental Assistants; or
    2. A high school diploma or its educational equivalent, including or supplemented by at least 300 instructional hours at an approved school for Dental Assistants, plus six months of full-time satisfactory experience as a Dental Assistant; or
    3. A high school diploma or its educational equivalent plus one year of full-time satisfactory experience as a Dental Assistant; or
    4. A satisfactory combination of education and experience equivalent to the above. All candidates must have at least a high school diploma or its educational equivalent.

Additional Notes:

  • Experience as a receptionist or clerk in a dentist's office is not acceptable toward meeting the qualification requirements.
  • Flexibility in work hours, including rotating shifts, is required.
