Job Title: MRI Technologist
Location: Marietta, GA
Shift: Nights, 7 PM - 7:30 AM, Thursday, Friday, Saturday
Department: Emergency Department (ED) MRI

Job Summary: We are seeking a skilled MRI Technologist to join our team in Marietta, GA. The ideal candidate must be flexible with work hours to meet department needs, dependable, accountable, and cooperative. You will be responsible for providing safe, age-appropriate care to patients by performing all exams according to department procedures. This role requires independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative in the utilization of equipment for the diagnosis and treatment of diseases. The MRI Technologist will set up equipment, position patients, and ensure the highest quality diagnostic studies.

Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

Equipment:

  • Adjust technique to ensure optimal image quality. Report equipment malfunctions to supervisor or service provider promptly.
  • Clean, disinfect, and maintain equipment per infection control policy. Operate patient monitoring systems.

Patient Care:

  • Obtain complete clinical history and assess for contraindicating conditions. Administer contrast media following established procedures.
  • Ensure proper patient identification and privacy. Review images for clinical acceptability and release patients.
  • Respond to emergency situations and assist other technologists as needed. Verify patient identity before procedures.
  • Demonstrate competence in age-appropriate care. Follow physician instructions and document pre-procedure verification.
  • Prepare patients for procedures and maintain sterile technique. Prepare and administer contrast, ensuring proper dosing.
  • Use safety devices to protect patients' hearing during exams. Understand anatomical positioning and cross-sectional anatomy.
  • Apply critical thinking skills and seek clarification on ambiguous orders.

Education and Communications:

  • Explain exam purposes and procedures to patients using AIDET: Acknowledge, Introduce, Discuss, Explain, and Thank.
  • Address patient questions and concerns, notifying physicians when necessary. Participate in the orientation and training of departmental employees.
  • Document accurately and read email assignments daily. Complete mandatory departmental and hospital-wide education.

Quality Control:

  • Produce acceptable images and follow exam protocols. Ensure equipment is operational before use.
  • Send studies to PACS immediately after completion. Maintain MRI suite security and cleanliness.

Operations:

  • Restock linens and supplies, maintain department cleanliness. Transport and position patients, assist them on and off procedure tables.
  • Perform patient charging activities promptly. Apply supportive and immobilization devices.
  • Assist coworkers and maintain productivity. Operate all MRI workstations and push/retrieve studies to the PACS system.
  • Maintain compliance with Joint Commission and regulatory standards. Perform other duties as assigned and take call when necessary.

Education: Successful completion of an accredited MRI program or ARRT-R Required.

Minimum License(s) and Certification(s):

  • Certified MRI Technologist
  • ARRT Magnetic Resonance Imaging
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)

Minimum Experience: Minimum 1 year of experience and successful completion of an accredited MRI program or ARRT-R required.

Required Minimum Skills:

  • Excellent communication skills for frequent interactions with physicians, patients, visitors, departmental staff, and nursing staff.
  • Ability to present and discuss clinical information routinely. Capacity to function independently and under pressure while participating in a team environment.
  • Excellent customer service skills and ability to perform in a fast-paced, stressful environment.
  • Ability to prioritize and multitask effectively. Professional interaction with a variety of customers.
  • Compliance with hospital policies and departmental protocols. Competence in all aspects of MRI, including patient positioning, pulse sequence parameters, and magnet safety.
  • Understanding of anatomy and pathology as they affect procedure quality.
