Job Title: Medical Assistant - Contract

Duties:
Fulfills patient care responsibilities as assigned, including performing venipuncture and/or EKGs, organizing patient flow, accompanying patients to exam/procedure rooms, and assisting patients with walking, transferring, and dressing. Collects and processes specimens and point-of-care testing, assists with exams, takes vital signs, relays instructions to patients and families, and answers calls providing relevant information.
Physical Activity Required: Heavy (frequent and sustained lifting, carrying, etc.).
Fulfills clerical responsibilities such as managing medical records, obtaining lab/x-ray reports, completing forms and requisitions, and organizing charts to ensure all information is completed and filed appropriately. These tasks may be performed using an electronic medical record (EMR) system or manually as needed.
Enters orders into the EMR system or prepares prescription refill requests for physician review and approval.
Inventories, orders, and restocks medical supplies as needed.
Prepares examination rooms and instruments, following sterilization techniques established by the hospital and infection control policies.
Maintains a logging system for medication refrigeration, sterilization processes, crash carts, and point-of-care testing as required.
Monitors expiration dates on medications and medical supplies and disposes of them appropriately per institution policy.
Ensures a safe and secure work environment by adhering to standards, procedures, and legal regulations.
Complies with personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements for protection against exposure to blood, chemicals, radiation, and other hazardous substances.
Assists with medical charts, filing, test results, and home care forms.
May schedule surgeries or work with a surgical coordinator to verify patient times, prepare charts, and manage pre-admission and consent forms.
May perform proficient phlebotomy duties.
Handles appointment scheduling and patient registration, ensuring demographic and insurance information is up to date.
Adjusts and confirms patient office schedules as needed.
Verifies and updates insurance information using internal systems or online sources.
Performs pre-certification for procedures as necessary.
Additional duties as assigned.
Skills:
Basic computer skills (MS Office Suite: Basic).
Ability to communicate effectively with multicultural and language-deficit patients.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Excellent telephone etiquette.
Proficient in medical terminology and HIPAA guidelines.
Knowledge of electronic medical record (EMR) or billing systems preferred, but not required.
Adaptability to a growing and changing environment.
Education:
High School Diploma/GED with completion of an approved Medical Assistant certificate course.
BCLS certification required (AHA).
Certified Medical Assistant preferred.
Languages: English (Speak, Read, Write).
Minimum Degree Required: High School Diploma or GED.
Hours:
37.50 hours per week.
7.50 hours per day.
Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.
Schedule Notes: Full-time, weekday position.
