Job Title: Emergency Communications Engineer
Location: Brooklyn, NY
Duration: 12 Months (Contract)

Job Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Emergency Communications Engineer to support the technologies and infrastructure that facilitate 911 and emergency response services for the public. Reporting to the Director of Emergency Communications, this role is critical to ensuring reliable communication systems and services throughout the region.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee vendors supporting emergency communications and telecommunications infrastructure

  • Coordinate with 911 Originating Service Providers, neighboring jurisdictions, and Emergency Communications Relay Centers

  • Deploy and support network infrastructure including racking, cabling, and configuration

  • Provide technical support for E911 and NG911 telephony systems

  • Manage services related to Text-to-911 (SMS, MMS, RTT)

  • Oversee ESInet systems and vendor-managed services

  • Support public safety unified communications systems

  • Provide technical expertise for emergency point-to-point, telematics, and third-party 911 communications

  • Triage and investigate infrastructure and communication failures; identify root cause and implement resolutions

  • Manage testing within 911 lab environments, validate test cases and outcomes

  • Maintain accurate records and manage emergency communication technology assets

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum 8 years of experience in a data center or field support role

  • At least 8 years of experience in network support and LAN/WAN troubleshooting

  • Strong background in communication routing, including Wireline, Wireless, and VoIP

  • Proficiency in documentation tools (Excel, Visio, Word, etc.)

  • Solid understanding of networking hardware, topologies, and telecommunication cabling standards

  • Experience with LEC circuit termination and activation

  • Physically capable of supporting on-site tasks including cabling and hardware setup

  • Willingness to travel locally within NYC and support on-call/weekend work as needed

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

Preferred Technical Expertise:

  • E911 and NG911 infrastructure, including call routing and location-based services

  • DMS and ACD systems, ANI/ALI services, and 911 call handling platforms

  • Public safety radio systems (P25 conventional/trunked networks)

  • SMS, RTT, TCC routing, and aggregation knowledge

  • GIS and spatial location identification systems
